The forecasts came true for Dalton Knecht. Shortly after we reported that the Lakers were going to part ways with him, that plan was carried out and he became a free agent, free to sign with another team, something he is reportedly expected to do within a short period of time.
The most interesting aspect for him is that this next step in his career could come with a franchise that has immediate ambitions; so much so that the New York Knicks are in the running to secure his services.
According to Ian Begley of SNYtv, the reigning champions would like to reinforce their wings and see the former Laker as a great option for that, especially since he would almost be a ‘bargain’ given that he would arrive on a two-way contract.
And which other teams are in the mix? The Minnesota Timberwolves, it seems. In this case, it is Marc Stein who has put their name on the table. The Wolves, who opened the season by thrashing Giannis Antetokounmpo, also believe he would be a risk-free acquisition that could give them an extra edge.

Beyond the two contenders already mentioned, Jake Fischer stresses that the Sacramento Kings are also chasing Knecht, all the more so after the serious injury suffered by Ben Simmons before the start of the season.
And there’s more. The Chicago Bulls, who negotiated a trade with the Lakers, remain in the picture; and we cannot overlook others such as the Toronto Raptors, who want to strengthen the backcourt and give the team another outside shooting option.
