Anthony Davis sets Washington alight

What a debut from Anthony Davis! After years of being utterly irrelevant in the NBA, the Washington Wizards have become a team that generates excitement before even taking to the court. The stands were packed for their season opener, and fans began chanting ‘MVP’ for their new idol before the first quarter had even ended…

“It’s been nine months since the last time I played a real game. I had an absolute blast tonight. There was a lot of excitement and a lot of energy”, says La Ceja.

His performance certainly lived up to expectations, with the crowd roaring in approval as he recorded 34 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. It was an impressive debut, with Trae Young also playing a key role by providing 13 assists. The point guard shares a common mission with his teammate.

“I want to help him win the MVP. If we have nights like tonight and keep winning games, he’ll be in the conversation”, he says after watching Davis shine on the court.

This is clearly only just beginning, but expectations have soared – and rightly so. The Wizards have more than just Davis and Young. They also boast a promising group of players, including No. 1 draft pick AJ Dybantsa, who could help them build something special.

Fans fully behind Anthony Davis

The first game for Washington was marked by the huge turnout at the arena, something that didn’t quite surprise Davis, but which his teammates made sure to highlight in the locker room. “Some teammates who have been here a while were saying: ‘It’s been a long time since we experienced anything like this'”, says the power forward.

In the capital city, everyone is focused on enjoying the moment. They know Davis has only one year left on his contract, but he seems happy and ready to give everything whatever the future holds. A trade? A renewal? Time will tell.
