David Stern wants one more year in the training of future NBA players

David Stern wants to carry out a reform in the training of university players. The NBA Commissioner defends the importance of extending the training of future draft picks for one more year.

«We want to create a rule that forces them to wait one more year to play in the NBA. Until then, they can compete in Europe, in the D-League, or continue one more year in college,” stated David Stern. The top leader of the American League assures that "it is a business rule for us."

With this new rule, the NBA would imitate the NFL, a competition that has a rule that requires three years of college.
David Stern himself already tried to carry out this reform during the Lockout, but the players' refusal did not allow him to make the change. «The league was not able to change its eligibility rules during collective bargaining last year. "The rules require that a North American player be at least 19 years old and have one year of college."

This already known problem comes to light again following the NCAA final, in which Kentucky was champion, and where the scouts already made it clear that Anthony Davis (1993) and his companion Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (1993) has all the ballots to be number 1 and number 2 in the Draft. Both must decide during this month whether to declare themselves eligible for the Draft or not.

The age limit to play in the NBA was instituted in 2005, and Stern has often spoken since then of his desire to raise it. However, during the lockout, they focused more attention on the economic issue than on formation changes.
For the moment, everything remains an idea created by David Stern that is gaining more and more strength. Now the NBA is waiting to meet with players and owners, as well as NCAA officials.
