The Philadelphia 76ers’ new project got off to a major win on the court of the reigning NBA champions.
Nick Nurse’s side spoiled the party for the Knicks, winning a tight 106-100 game.
Tyrese Maxey was undoubtedly the man of the match, scoring 28 points and dishing out 5 assists to drive his side’s attack.
Alongside him, debutants Jaylen Brown and LeBron James also got off to a good start. LeBron in particular had to guard KAT when Embiid was in foul trouble during the third quarter.
The King kept the Knickerbockers centre in check to reach the break alive (58-54 down).
“Obviously Towns is a very dangerous player when you give him space. I wanted to be there the moment he received the ball. Without giving him any breathing room… And Tyrese, who was alert to the fast-break defence, was able to anticipate and get that dunk. It was a key dynamic that changed the game”, he explained.
James began a historic season for him, his 24th in his sporting career, with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, one steal and one block.
Alongside him, Maxey led the attack with 28 points; Jaylen Brown contributed 19 points, 8 rebounds and six assists, and Joel Embiid completed the star quartet with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and three blocks.
