The sale of the Boston Celtics is now official. The Massachusetts franchise confirmed the news in a statement issued by its press department.
The NBA Board of Governors has approved the sale for a record $6.1 billion, which will pass into the hands of a group led by billionaire Will Chisholm.

“This is a dream come true for me and my family,” Chisholm said.
“I feel very fortunate to be here as the new investor group, a team of talented and motivated people who care about the Celtics and their great community. On behalf of our group, I’m delighted to team up with Wyc, Brad Stevens, and Rich Gotham to keep this outstanding franchise moving forward. We’re committed to building a lasting legacy for the Celtics and adding to our championship banners. I can’t wait to see the team back on the court this fall,” he added.
As the Celtics’ main move—and particularly that of Brad Stevens—has been to drastically cut the team’s payroll.
In June 2025, they had $540 million committed, and now they’re down to just $239 million.
