Adrian Wojnarowski is no longer part of the NBA fan’s daily routine. However, he has amassed more than six million followers on X for his work around the league, and he remains a prominent figure in its media coverage. The former ESPN and Yahoo Sports reporter was diagnosed with prostate cancer last March. That turned out to be one of the final pushes to leave a profession that, in his own words, “no longer fulfilled me,” as he says in Sports Illustrated.

Fortunately, Woj says the cancer was caught early and is at a stage he can treat without chemotherapy. He also rules out any threat of metastasis. He has no symptoms. However, hearing the word “cancer” made him rethink his life, which led to the line in his farewell letter to journalism that reads “time is not infinite.” He didn’t retire from journalism because of cancer; he simply “didn’t want to spend another day of my life waiting on someone’s medical tests or calling an agent at one in the morning about a sprained ankle.”

He now enjoys his work at St. Bonaventure, his college alma mater. He had already been doing consulting for them, but fully committing to the project was a challenge he wanted to take on himself.
