Mavericks part ways with Dwight Powell

Twelve years after his debut with the team, the Dallas Mavericks have ended their association with Dwight Powell. The big man has lost his place on the roster to Moussa Cisse, who had impressed in pre-season and was attracting interest from several teams.

To do so, the Texas franchise has parted with the third-longest continuous tenure with a single club, surpassed only by Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. He made 763 appearances wearing the Mavs jersey, the fifth-most games played in Dallas franchise history.

Although he was still receiving minutes, Powell had already spent several years with diminished sporting relevance. His defensive shortcomings were always a problem, but his athleticism led to very efficient seasons as a pick-and-roll partner for Luka Doncic.

Now, at 35 and with rosters virtually set, it will be difficult for him to find a new team.
