The New York Knicks travel to Philadelphia for their first NBA Cup game of the season against Nick Nurse’s 76ers.

Mike Brown’s side head into the contest on the back of two consecutive victories, having beaten the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls on successive nights.

The Knicks will now be looking for a third straight win to bring their record back to .500 after opening the season with three consecutive defeats.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, have started the campaign with a 4-1 record and come into the game following a 114-109 victory over the Indiana Pacers, in which Tyrese Maxey scored 27 points.

Knicks vs Sixers: best bet

The Sixers enter the game as favourites. They are among the early leaders in the Eastern Conference with a 4-1 record and have shown better form than the Knicks, who are still trying to find their rhythm after last season’s championship success.

Although New York arrive in Philadelphia following victories over Detroit and Chicago, those results are not necessarily a reliable measure of their form. The Pistons were missing key players, while the Bulls have struggled for consistency.

The Knicks’ hopes once again rest largely on Jalen Brunson, who rediscovered his shooting touch against Chicago, making six of his ten attempts from three-point range.

Latest Knicks news: absentees and form

As previously reported, point guard José Alvarado will miss the game because of a sprained left ankle.

Alvarado has been sidelined since the game against Boston, missing New York’s last four matches.

His absence has created more opportunities for Tyler Kolek, who has made excellent use of his playing time, recording 21 assists without committing a turnover in just 44 minutes.

Player to watch: Jalen Brunson

Brunson spoke about the need to correct the “little things” following New York’s hard-fought victory over Chicago, a game in which the Knicks had to battle until the final moments.

It was another outstanding performance from the point guard, who scored 38 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, to make the difference when his team needed him most.

He was not alone, however. With Mikal Bridges struggling, the Knicks received valuable contributions from their bench, particularly Jordan Clarkson, who scored 18 points, including 12 in the closing stages.

New York came back from 19 points down in the second half, with Brunson’s 38 points proving decisive.

Latest Sixers news: absentees and form

The Sixers will be without Ariel Hukporti, already confirmed out after suffering an Achilles fracture in the preseason, and precisely against his former team.

However, his team-mates Dominick Barlow and centre Tacko are late doubts because of minor physical problems.

Player to watch: Jaylen Brown

This season we will be following Jaylen Brown very closely and, above all, how things go for him in Philadelphia surrounded by so much talent.

Last season he showed his best version in the NBA as the Celtics’ first offensive option, taking advantage of Tatum’s injury. And it did not go badly for them, surprising friend and foe alike in the regular season.

However, Philadelphia is a different story, and they have to share the stripes with Maxey, LeBron and Embiid.

In this start to the season he is averaging 20 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per night.

Knicks vs Sixers: head-to-head record

The Sixers spoiled their ring ceremony with a crushing 106-100 win in the new regular season.

Tyrese Maxey led the visitors’ attack with 28 points, backed up by the 19 points of the aforementioned Brown.

Knicks vs Sixers predictions

  • Jalen Brunson as the Knicks’ top scorer, with 20+ points.
  • Another double-double for Karl-Anthony Towns.
  • 7+ assists from Tyler Kolek off the bench.
  • 20 points each for Maxey and Brown.
  • LeBron James adds another double-double to his long career.
